Volunteer Week 2018: How HAP Is Pitching in and How You Can Get Involved
Giving back to communities across Michigan is at the heart of our culture and mission. HAP employees often contribute our time, talents and money back to important causes in the communities where we live and work.
National Volunteer Week is April 15-21, and HAP team members are ready to serve. We’ll be out and about throughout our Metro Detroit and Flint communities. Here’s where we’ll be:
Monday
North End Soup Kitchen in Flint
We’ll be helping serving food to the Flint community. Hot, balanced meals are served by North End Soup Kitchen seven days a week, year-round.
Forgotten Harvest in Oak Park
You can find our team packing food to help relieve hunger in metro Detroit. Forgotten Harvest collects surplus food from 800 sources and delivers it free-of-charge to 250 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area.
Tuesday
Gleaners in Detroit
We’ll be supporting Gleaners’ mission to feed the hungry and nourish our communities.
Sweet Dreamzzz in Livonia
HAP employees will help pack resources to help poverty-level school children get better, more restful sleep.
World Medical Relief in Southfield
Our team will be helping pack medical supplies and equipment for Detroit families in need.
Wednesday
Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint
We’ll be helping to sort and process the food items. Food Bank of Eastern Michigan distributes more than 28 million pounds of food annually.
Humble Design in Pontiac
You can find us organizing the Humble Design warehouse, which helps families transition out of homeless shelters.
Turning Point Mt. Clemens
Turning Point offers resources and support to sexual and domestic abuse victims. We’ll be helping out at their Second Hand Rose resale shop, which provides free goods to survivors and affordable merchandise to the community.
Thursday
Carriage Town in Flint
Carriage Town offers help and resources to the homeless men, women and children in mid-Michigan. Our team will be helping serve food to the Flint community.
Friday
Focus Hope in Detroit
Our team will be helping senior citizens shop on Thursday and packing food on Friday. Focus Hope addresses the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education and racial divisiveness through its food, careers and community programs.
Saturday
Metro Parks in Harrison Township
We’ll be helping clean up the park for Earth Day.
